With a window of opportunity with this unseasonably weather we're having, I decided to grab the chance of a couple hours painting on Dartmoor, unfortunately we had a downpour half way through the session, which caused the paint to run, so had to correct the mishap.

Completed the third and final portrait workshop with Colin Pethick, an excellent artist and tutor, as this was my first attempt at a completed portrait in oils, using a live model, I believe I have learnt a considerable amount about working from life.

Following a demonstration by Colin Pethick at our local art club, I thought I would attempt a portrait workshop with him, this is over a three week period, one morning per period, to allow each sitting to dry before the next stage, never done a portrait from a model using oils before, so this is a learning workshop, will show each stage as I go.

This was done all with a painting knife with no initial drawing, as I am admirer of Alan Cotton who is famous for his wonderful painting knife oil paintings, I thought I would see how working without a brush and just using these unusual instruments would end up, even though I was a little conservative on the use of the oil paint, I was quite pleased with the result.

Sketch of this beautiful house across the river border of Devon and Cornwall near Plymouth, this was done following a coeliac meeting held there couple of months ago, the country park has so much inspiration for sketching and painting you would be in artistic heaven.
